An Overview of Christianity

Christianity in a Minute:

With almost one third of the world's population, 2 billion followers, Christianity is the largest as well as most widespread and diverse of the world's religions.

Christianity is founded on the birth, life, teachings, death and [supposed] resurrection of a first Century Jew known by the name of Jesus.

This religion grew out of Judaism but at what point in it's historical development did it cease being a movement within Judaism and become a new religion in it's own right?

This will be a recurring question to keep in mind as you read through these lectures.

There are, today, hundreds of different denominational families and thousands of different Christian churches. What is it they have in common that makes them all "Christian" and what is it that makes them stand out as unique and different and from one another? At what point does a church go so far outside the "norm" as to no longer be legitimately considered "Christian"? (and who is to judge?)

This is another recurring question to consider here.
