  • The Great Books Foundation Religions of the World: Christianity, Islam, Judaism. Contains selected passages from the sacred texts of these religions and a series of thought provoking questions for discussion.

  • Traditions from West Asia: part of the Religious Studies web site by G. Thursby, Associate Professor, Department of Religion, University of Florida. Provides information on some of the Western religions and links to numerous other sites related to these faiths.

Judaism:

  • Judaism 101: frequently asked questions about Judaism, going into more detail than you even knew to ask about. Perhaps the most respected and referenced Website on Judaism.

  • ReligiousTolerance.Org on Judaism check out their basic "Description of Judaism" as well as other essays related to Judaism and links to various Web sites on Judaism.

  • My Jewish Learning: "The personal gateway to Jewish exploration" provides a very comprehensive review of Jewish history, daily life and practice, holidays, lifecycle celebrations, texts, ideas and beliefs, and culture. Includes self quizzes, a discussion board, a glossary of Jewish terms.

  • Heritage: Civilization and the Jews Explore the 4000 year history of Judaism through this interactive Website based on the PBS series.

  • The Jewish Americans from PBS (aired January, 2008): explores 350 years of Jewish American history. Explore themes regarding Jewish Life in America, including video clips from this six hour documentary.

Christianity:

  • The Mormons From PBS Frontline: watch the entire four hour documentary reviewing Mormon history, beliefs and practices. Companion website provides FAQs, interactive pages on Mormon history, themes, discussion and resources (reading and online) to learn more about this unique American born religion.

Islam:

  • ReligiousTolerance.Org on Islam includes basic information and numerous essays on specific issues related to Islam. 

  • World Assembly of Muslim Youth contains introductory pages on Islam including explanations about the Quran, the Prophet, women in Islam, and Islam on the environment. 

  • Discover Islam Online provides a series of posters "designed to educate people about Islam in a way that is both interesting and effective." You can order or print these for yourself from the site (especially nice if you have a color printer). This site also have some other information of interest.

  • The Religion of Islam: Good collection of basic information about Islam, presented by the Islamic Affairs Department of The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Washington DC.

  • Muslims A Frontline video from PBS: examines Islam’s worldwide resurgence through the stories of diverse Muslims struggling to define the role of Islam in their lives and societies. Online video segments feature ordinary Muslims from various cultures discussing their perspectives on various issues facing their faith in today’s world.

  • Islam: Empire of Faith (PBS video): This PBS documentary examines the first 1000 years of Islamic religion and culture. Informative and surprising information about this time and culture. Accompanying Website parallels the documentary contents for additional online exploration. Contains a series of educational resources (lessons), basic information on the religion and civilization of Islam, as well as information on the PBS documentary itself.

  • Muhammad: Legacy of the Prophet: another PBS documentary film. The website provides an interactive timeline of the life of Muhammad, a virtual hajj, and select video clips.

  • Islamicity: visit a virtual worldwide Islamic Community. Contains news items from an Islamic point of view, a Q&A section and a discussion board where you can "talk" with actual Muslims.

  • TOP TEN MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT ISLAM. You might also want to check out the many other informative articles at this site. There are lots of other useful resources here as well, including a page of links to hundreds of other Islamic websites.
