Religion is...

In Dec. 2007 I started surveying my students with the following question:

  • What are the first three words that come to mind when you think about religion?

I ask this question of my students at the beginning and again at the end of each semester. The tag cloud you see above reflects the top 25 words from a compilation of all responses from all students for all "before" and "after" surveys in all classes since I started collecting these words. This tag cloud will change as additional contributions come in over the course of each semester of teaching.

The resulting "before" and "after" tag clouds for each current class appear below (it should be interesting to see how student perceptions change as the result of a semester's study of religion):
