Motivating questions:
  • What do I want to do?

I want to project what is on my laptop to a screen in the classroom, so that my students can see what I am writing or seeing on my computer. Thus, by avoiding chalk boards and white boards, I can face my students during the entire class, and I avoid accumulating chalk dust or marker residue on my hands.

  • What technology will help me accomplish my goals?

Each NOVA classroom has a built in projector, with either VGA cable or HDMI cable, or both. However, one needs a computer with both types of connections in order to be able to use projectors in different classrooms. My own tablet PC does have both a VGA port and an HDMI port.

  • How easy is it to use?

The ease of use depends on the classroom and the individual connection. In some classrooms, the VGA cable is somewhat awkward to fasten and unfasten. In some classrooms, one connection or the other does not work satisfactorily. For example, in one classroom, the HDMI connection produced an oscillating image, which was not usable.

  • How do I learn to use it?

Usually, all that is necessary is to plug in the appropriate cable. Sometimes, I have had to instruct my tablet PC to switch to projection mode.

  • How can I obtain it?

The projectors and connecting tables are installed in each NOVA classroom.

  • What does it cost?

There is no cost to each instructor, but NOVA must supply and maintain the projectors.
