Transfer Evaluation System
https://www.nvcc.edu/cro/transfercredit/tes.html

Use TES to search for transfer credit previously evaluated at NOVA. It's simple...locate your school, then search for your course. If the course has transferred to NOVA an equivalent will appear. If you can't find your course, don't worry, your coursework may be eligible for credit even if your course and/or school are not listed in TES.

** NOVA will only evaluate completed coursework listed on official transcripts, and only coursework relevant to a degree or certificate at the college. Some transfer credit may need Faculty and departmental Dean approval before transfer.

** A course listing is not a guarantee of credit transfer to NOVA. NOVA's list of courses and institutions is dynamic because NOVA continually updates TES.

ADVANCE – Information Brief (July 2018)

This information brief provides an overview of the ADVANCE NOVA/Mason Partnership for all frontline staff at both NOVA and George Mason University. If you have questions about ADVANCE not answered here, please see section 5 below with contact information and helpful online materials.

1. What is ADVANCE? ADVANCE takes the guesswork out of earning a 4-year degree with clear curricular pathways, a success coach, and a supportive community across Northern Virginia Community College and George Mason University. ADVANCE is a supplement to existing transfer pathways to George Mason including the GAA and Pathway to Baccalaureate and direct transfer. The primary aim of ADVANCE is to improve access and affordability by eliminating confusion about Mason course requirements and reduce the risk of students taking courses that may be unnecessary for their desired majors at Mason, and create a community of ADVANCE NOVA/Mason students. NOVA students have access to Mason resources as soon as they commit to becoming part of the ADVANCE program. The first ADVANCE entering class will start in Fall 2018

2. What are the current pathways? There are currently 21 pathways for existing NOVA students to choose from. Please see the ADVANCE Website for those pathways. We anticipate adding new pathways, so please check http://www.nvcc.edu/advance/ for the most current listings.

3. Who is eligible? ADVANCE is designed for students who have made a clear choice of major that aligns with an available curricular pathway.
There are eligibility requirements necessary to ensure a student’s success. Candidates for ADVANCE must:
 • Be current NOVA students enrolled in an associate’s degree program,
 • Have earned no more than 30 credits towards their desired pathway*,
 • Have a 2.0 cumulative GPA for any earned college credit to date.
*Students with more than 30 earned credits should consult with an academic advisor to determine the best route for transfer to Mason.

4. If a student has questions, who can they contact? If students have questions about ADVANCE direct them to the following resources:
http://www.nvcc.edu/advance/
• Student Success Coach: Rita Snyder-Furr
• Phone: 703.993.2426 • Email: advance@nvcc.edu

5. If you, as a staff member, have questions about ADVANCE policies, procedures or services, please feel free to use the following resources:
 • Ask ADVANCE by email at Askadvan@gmu.edu or on the web at AskADVANCEWebForm
 • The ADVANCE Faculty/Staff Portal contains a range of materials that will help you better understand advance including recorded training presentation and FAQs.
